Soccer Inspired Lingerie

Katy Perry's Custom Garment Creates A Stir

If you happened to miss it, Katy Perry turned up at the MTV awards earlier this month in a basque decorated with West Ham United team badges, strategically placed. Apparently, this was all in honor of Perry’s boyfriend, comedian Russell Brand, who is a fan of the team.

Well, in an interesting turn of events, West Ham United has decided to capitalize on the unforeseen publicity (and demand for the specially made garment) and is going into the lingerie business! The soccer club (or football club, as it is called in Europe) has now commissioned a limited-edition run of the garments that it will sell to fans.

Apparently, the famous soccer club didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter. They were, to quote a spokesperson, “responding to huge demand”.

Perry’s creation was the work of designer Siobhan Dillon. Her basque was made from replica West Ham United shirts. Dillon wanted to make the lingerie item as sports-oriented as possible. Dillon said, “I used the collars [from the shirts] along the top of the brassiere and used the two badges on the front.” The garment used three shirts in total, but Dillon had to do some fiddling: the Airtex in the shirts had to come out and it was replaced with some suitable lining.

The resulting outfit was worn by Perry - and seen by millions of viewers around the world, which is how the demand for it arose. West Ham United has commissioned a limited edition run of the basques which will be available at £300 each.

If you too are a fan - or love the idea of a cheeky item in honor of your favorite football team - you’ll have to go the West Ham United megastore. You can’t get this garment online.
