Geldof Sisters Keep UK Tabloids Busy

First it was 19-year-old Peaches Geldof, doffing her outerwear to model skivvies in racy photos. Now, it’s 18-year-old Pixie Geldof, joining her sister in modeling risque undergarments just a few months later.

Pixie’s campaign photos are quite different from older sister Peaches, who posed in gothic-inspired pics. Pixie is played up as virginal – although, other than the white lingerie, her poses are not exactly innocent.

Papa Sir Bob Geldof, of the Boomtown Rats and charity work fame, must be wondering if modeling and dabbling in the erotic is in his kids’ genes. His (in)famous ex-wife and mother of his daughters, Paula Yates, posed naked for Penthouse in 1978, before becoming a rock music journalist. She was later known for her in-bed interviews on the TV show “The Big Breakfast” in the 90’s. Paula’s mom, Elaine Smith, was a showgirl and actress as well as a writer of erotic novels. So, Pixie and Peaches seem to come by their interest in underwear naturally.

Agent Provocateur (AP) definitely looks for models like the Geldofs who are willing to tread a more dangerous edge in its advertising and campaign materials. AP wants to provoke. It’s famous for its sexually charged advertising of intimate wear as well as for short videos that are more like soft porn than advertising.

Given AP’s history, I’m surprised it hasn’t negotiated someone like Madonna. (She’d probably cost them too much.)

Regardless, AP also has developed a celebrity following including Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, and Carmen Electra. The notoriety of the lingerie brand probably attracts them.

AP doesn’t just love celebrities as clients, they also love them as models. AP has made use of a number in high-profile advertising campaigns, from Kate Moss to Kylie Minogue, Helena Christensen and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

If you can get yourself past the advertising, there are some nice pieces in the AP collection. However, while some of the lingerie is pretty and sensual and avoids the excesses of the company’s advertising approach, I find most of it is just too expensive for us regular human beings.
