A Tool To Help You Shop

Some fine, upstanding man in the UK - who had wanted to surprise his wife with a lovely lingerie gift - failed miserably. (We do have Guy, our BraWise irregular columnist, who has also commented that lingerie as a gift could be more trouble than it’s worth.) Apparently, there are droves of other men who have had the very same experience buying lingerie. So, our fine, upstanding man from the UK did something about it, and started the website Felicity Spice.

Ms Spice is the virtual lingerie expert who will lead the male shopper through three simple question pages - and then suggest a range of items that would be perfect for your sweetheart. At least, that’s the theory.

Being the intrepid reporter that I am, I figured I’d put myself through the process, and just see what was suggested.

The first thing you have to know is your sweetie’s bra size. Let’s put it this way: if you are intimate enough with her to buy her lingerie, you should be intimate enough to have a quick peek in her lingerie drawer to check sizes. Perhaps you can do a bit of sleuthing while she’s in the shower: just make sure you have enough time to find something with a clear label, so that you don’t have to answer any uncomfortable questions!

Once you know her size, the rest of the questions are a snap. You enter in her skin tone: light, medium or dark. You check whether you’d like pink and black included in the final selections. Then you finish with a budget range. Voila! You get a screen of suggested items, which includes color recommendations as well as preferred styles for your beloved’s shape.

If you click on one of the items, the site takes you directly to a page that will let you buy the item. It’s really that simple! (Someone was thinking when they put this site together.)

Now - the only drawback for North American shoppers is that the company is located in the UK. As a result, you pay in British Pounds, and you have the nasty addition of overseas shipping and whatever taxes and duty that might be applied.

Here’s my suggestion: find a few lovely items. Identify styles and even makes. Then consider buying closer to home - perhaps even Bare Necessities, which is currently running some great promotions for Christmas shoppers.
